A selection of smartphones with an IR port in 2020: what options are left for consumers?

The abbreviation IR, which can be found in the list of technical characteristics of the phone, means IR or infrared. If your phone is equipped with an IR port, it allows you to send commands via infrared rays to other devices, for example, a TV, set-top box or stereo system that is compatible with IR remotes. The main advantage of using an IR-based device is that you don't need to run the cumbersome Bluetooth pairing process, plus, you can use it with older devices that don't support Bluetooth and other wireless connections.

Unfortunately, smartphones with an IR port are becoming rarer. Brands like Samsung or HTC have already removed this option from the list of characteristics of their devices, but Chinese manufacturers are not yet going to abandon the use of this technology. The best smartphones with an IR port in our selection:

Huawei P30 Pro

Huawei P30 Pro is one of the best smartphones among the flagships, although it was released almost a year ago.

It is equipped with a Kirin 980 chipset, 8 GB of RAM and 128/512 GB of internal memory. Of course, the IR port is also present. But as with other P-series smartphones, its most impressive feature is the camera. The P30 Pro not only offers 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid and 50x digital, but is also the best phone for shooting in low light and at night. Even Google's Night Sight mode doesn't produce the same result.

Plus, you won't drain the battery too quickly when taking photos thanks to the 4,100 mAh battery on board. The device also offers wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. This is one of the most functional smartphones on the market.

It is equipped with a powerful Snapdragon 855 chipset, a built-in fingerprint scanner and three main cameras. The 3,300 mAh battery supports 27W fast charging, allowing it to charge from zero to 100 percent in about 65 minutes. The Mi 9 also offers wireless charging, works with dual SIM cards, and has a superior appearance thanks to its glass and metal construction. All of this together makes it one of the best IR-enabled phones on our list – not least thanks to the price, which is significantly lower than that of the Huawei P30 Pro.:Screen: 6.39 inches, Full HD+SoC: Snapdragon 855RAM: 6 / 8 / 12 GB Internal memory: 64/128 / 256 GB Cameras: 48, 16 and 12 MP Front Camera: 20 MP Battery: 3300 mAh Phone: Android 9.0 Piehuwei Mate 20 Pro

< /p>Xiaomi Mi Note 10 is a medium-budget device based on the Snapdragon 730G chipset with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. There is also a Pro version, which provides 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of flash memory. A special feature of the phone is its main camera with five sensors that can adapt to almost any shooting mode. The main 108 MP sensor has a sensor size of 1/ 1.33 inches and a pixel size of 0.8 microns. Next, you'll find a 12-megapixel telephoto lens. Xiaomi advertises the third lens as a telephoto lens with 5x zoom, but that's not the case. It's actually a 3.7 x optical telephoto lens based on an 8-megapixel sensor. Xiaomi performs digital cropping to get the same perspective coverage as with the 5x zoom. This is a bit misleading and results in the same perspective distortion that gives a 3.7 x optical zoom. Next is an ultra-wide-angle lens, and below it is a separate 2 MP macro camera with a pixel size of 1.75 microns.
