Warhammer games on PC and console in different genres: strategy, tactics, action, shooters

Warhammer is one of the most popular universes among game developers. Projects on it come out in a variety of genres: from typical action games to strategies and entertainment in the style of sports competitions. In this selection, we tried to collect this variety, and not just choose those projects that could be considered the best for some factors.

Total War: Warhammer II

Total War: Warhammer II — one of the most popular and successful games based on the universe, although this is not surprising, because the Creative Assembly studio is responsible for its creation, and the project itself has absorbed the best of what was in the Total War series.According to the tradition of the developers, Total War: Warhammer II includes two components: a turn-based strategy, which takes place on a global map and real-time battles "among the bizarre landscapes of the New World". You can play for one of the four races, and in addition to direct military operations, there are politics, diplomacy, research and much more.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2

Like Total War: Warhammer II for Creative Assembly, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 for Fatshark is the second project in an already familiar franchise and universe with familiar mechanics, bug fixes, and new features.

Vermintide 2 is a cooperative first-person action game, which focuses on the joint passage with other players. You can choose one of 5 heroes that develop through professions and talents. This is a continuation of the ideas of the legendary Left 4 Dead, where the fun is provided by the gameplay itself, interaction with other players and achievements.

Blood Bowl 2

This game shows how crazy the ideas of developers can be and how cool you can beat the setting. Blood Bowl is a mix of Warhammer and American football. The rules of the latter, with which many domestic players are not familiar, will not be considered here, but you can be sure that this particular sport is best suited for the setting. According to the description, at first you may think that this is a meat action game, but in fact we are dealing with a turn-based strategy-an adaptation of a board game.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr

Now consider something more typical. Inquisitor-Martyr is an action slasher with an isometric camera set in the Caligari sector. You play as an officer of the secret police of the Imperium, who is investigating the disappearance of one of the ancient fortresses-monasteries.

If you can find fault with the game itself, then the developers definitely coped with the atmosphere and the transfer of the features of the universe. And there is also a fascinating plot, which is not often found in projects where the emphasis is on the gameplay. Here it is slightly monotonous, so if you go exclusively to destroy all the scum, then it is better to look at something else.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II

Relic Entertainment studio released three parts of the Dawn of War strategy, and somehow it turned out that each of them was worse than the previous one. The second part can be forgiven for some shortcomings, because it changed the mechanics, turning from a real-time strategy mainly into tactics, but it's better to forget about the triquel altogether.

It is worth noting that in the case of the second part, the developers paid a little less attention to the story component, focusing on multiplayer, which they definitely succeeded. Nevertheless, it is still a full-fledged Warhammer game: dynamic, diverse and atmospheric.

The Horus Heresy: Legions

In order not to offend anyone at all, you can also remember about the card entertainment based on the universe, but it is also worth noting that this is a free game, so there are more compromises in it than in any other one from the list.

In Legions, you will find 85 commanders and more than 1000 cards to use in battles against other players. There is a lot of content, good art and a lot of fanservice for fans of the franchise, but without real investment, it will quickly become uncomfortable.

Warhammer 40 000: Mechanicus

And back to the strategies. This game is dedicated to the Adeptus Mechanicus organization, whose activities are related to various mechanisms. The plot focuses on the expedition of the magos Dominus Faustinius to the necron planet Silva Tenebris. The plot here is given quite a lot of attention, as for this genre, but the developers have worked even harder on the universe. From the gameplay point of view, it is a turn-based tactic, where there is a traditional base management and familiar battles. They themselves are of medium complexity and can not be compared with the same XCOM.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

Space Marine is already in a sense a classic, which turns 10 years old next year. The game is a brutal third-person action shooter that seems to be largely inspired by the Gears of War series. The main role here is played by people, namely, Captain Titus, a space marine of the Order of the Ultramarines. In terms of gameplay, there is no depth inherent in more tactical games in the franchise, but the developers managed to fill what is happening with action. Every second something will happen here, so you will be able to forget about the noticeably outdated graphics very soon.

Battlefleet Gothic: Armada

Despite the genre variety of games based on Warhammer, you can pay attention to the fact that developers especially prefer strategies and tactics, which is not surprising, given that the original is a board game. But if in most games you manage to control the characters, then in Battlefleet Gothic: Armada, as you can guess from the name, — the fleet. The action takes place in outer space, in the Gothic sector. This is a real-time strategy game with an active pause, quite intimate, but complex and varied. Plus, it's not like anything else.

Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times

And we will finish the selection not with the best game in the world of Warhammer, but with the one that is also available on mobile. The End Times is a continuation of the turn-based strategy game from Perchang, in which you go as a squad for glory and treasure through the war-torn lands. You will need to participate in battles, explore locations, trade and search for tasks in cities, as well as collect the best heroes, offering them the most effective weapons.
